Lost Funding Database
Background

This dashboard visualizes data from a U.S. Senate Commerce Committee investigation released on February 11, 2025, which identified over 3,400 National Science Foundation (NSF) grants totaling more than $2.05 billion in federal funding. These grants were awarded during the Biden-Harris administration and have been identified for review based on their connection to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Current Status

Following an Executive Order requiring termination of DEI programs across federal agencies, the NSF has:

  • Frozen its annual grant review process
  • Initiated a comprehensive review of all funding activities
  • Begun evaluating existing grants for compliance
  • Started implementing new directives for future funding
